75th Anniversary

  • 1986 -- September -- Friar Emeric Szlezak, O.F.M., a hospice from the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, became the Parochial Vicar of St. Emery’s.
  • 1988 -- July 7 -- Friar Robert D. Nemeth, O.F.M., was elected as the Custos of the Custody of St. Stephen the King (Youngstown).
  • 1988 -- December 14th -- His Excellency Edward Michael Egan, J.C.D., installed as the Third Bishop of Bridgeport at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT.
  • 1989 -- Friar Emeric Szlezak, O.F.M., celebrates his Golden Jubilee of Religious Profession as a Franciscan Friar.
  • 1989 -- September 23rd -- His Eminence Laszlo Cardinal Paskai, O.F.M., Cardinal Archbishop of Esztergom and Primate of Hungary visits St. Emery’s and concelebrates the Eucharist with the Most Reverend Edward M. Egan, Bishop of Bridgeport. A Reception for the Cardinal was held in the School Gymnasium.
  • 1989 -- September 29th -- Sister Emerentia Soos, F.D.C., is born into Eternal Life. Her Liturgical Christian Burial was celebrated both here at St. Emery’s and Villa Madonna – Allamuchy. Interment at Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows, New Jersey.
  • 1992 -- June 7th -- Friar Robert Daniel Nemeth, O.F.M., celebrates the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of His Ordination to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. Most Reverend Edward M. Egan, Bishop of Bridgeport presides at the Eucharist. A Silver Jubilee Dinner is held at Sante’s Manor, Milford, CT.
  • 1992 -- December 31st -- The Custody of St. Stephen, the King in the United States is surpressed. The former Custody of Transylvanian Friars merges with the Province of the Immaculate Conception (New York City).
  • 1993 -- January 1st -- The Franciscan Province of the Immaculate Conception (New York City) assumes pastoral care of St. Emery’s Parish. The pastoral care of the Transylvanian Friars which spanned sixty years.
  • 1994 -- June 26th -- Friar Emeric Szlezak, O.F.M., celebrates His Golden Jubilee in the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. The Eucharist presided over by the Most Reverend Edward M. Egan, Bishop of Bridgeport. A Jubilee Dinner was held at Sante’s Manor – Milford, CT.
  • 1995 -- March 8th -- The Daughters of Divine Charity – our Sisters – announced that the Sisters will be withdrawn from our Parish at the end of the School Year. The Daughters of Divine Charity staffed the former St. Stephen’s School – Bridgeport and St. Emery’s – Fairfield 1951–1987.
  • 1998 -- January 1st -- Friar Louis M. Pintye, O.F.M., becomes the Temporary Administrator of our Parish and Guardian of the Friary.
  • 1998 -- January 9th -- Friar Robert Daniel Nemeth, O.F.M., was born Into Eternal Life at Carolton Convalescent Hospital Fairfield, CT.
  • 1998 -- January 15th -- The Liturgy of Christian Burial for Friar Robert Daniel Nemeth, O.F.M., was celebrated by the Most Reverend Edward M. Egan, Bishop of Bridgeport and Very Reverend Robert M. Campagna, Provincial of the Franciscan Province of the Immaculate Conception. Father Robert is interred in the Nemeth Family Plot at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport, CT.
  • 1998 -- September -- The Brooklawn Academy of Fairfield, CT a state sponsored charter School begins operations at the former St. Emery’s Parochial School.
  • 1998 -- Friar Louis M. Pintye, O.F.M., becomes the President of the Fairfield/Easton Regional Catholic Schools (FERCS).
  • 1999 -- July 1st -- Business Office of the Fairfield/Easton Regional Catholic School, Inc. relocates to St. Emery’s School.
  • 1999 -- September -- The Pre-Kindergarten Program of Our Lady of the Assumption Regional Catholic School Campus begins operations at St. Emery’s School.
  • 2000 -- Restoration work began on our Parish Church. Contract awarded to Patrick Baker & Sons., Inc. Southington, CT. The Church Hall became our worship space. Easter Sunday Mass was celebrated in the newly restored church.
  • 2000 -- May 9th -- His Excellency Edward Michael Egan, J.C.D., Bishop of Bridgeport, blesses and consecrates our renovated Church and Altar. Banquet of Thanksgiving held at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church Social Hall – Bridgeport.
  • 2000 -- October -- His Eminence Laszlo Cardinal Paskai, O.F.M., Cardinal-Archbishop on a Pastoral visit of Hungarian Churches in the United States. He celebrates the Eucharist for our Parishioners and Catholics of Hungarian parentage from throughout Connecticut.
  • 2001 -- May 15th -- His Excellency William Edward Lori, S.T.D., Fourth Bishop of Bridgeport, confers the Sacrament of Confirmation upon our young people. This is Bishop Lori’s First Visit to our Parish since his installation as the Bishop of Bridgeport on March 19th, 2001.
  • 2003 -- June 30th -- Brooklawn Academy’s Charter as a Charter School is revoked by the State of Connecticut thus the entity ceases to exist.
  • 2004 -- June -- The Pre-Kindergarten Group of Our Lady of the Assumption Regional Catholic School ceases operation at St. Emery’s School. It is relocated at the Our Lady of the Assumption Campus. The program ran here at St. Emery’s for 5 years.
  • 2004 -- November 6th -- A Memorial Mass celebrating the life, goodness and generosity of Sister Mary Virginia Skarupa, F.D.C., is celebrated her at St. Emery’s. Sister Virginia was Born Into Eternal Life in New York City on October 6th, 2004.
  • 2005 -- January 3rd -- The Fairfield/Easton Regional Catholic School Office (FERCS) at St. Emery’s since 1999 is relocated to St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School – Fairfield.
  • 2005 -- January 10th -- The St. Augustine School – Bridgeport Cluster – occupies St. Emery’s School. The new entity is known as: St. Augustine School at St. Emery’s Parish. The student body of 153 students allows Catholic education to return to St. Emery’s.
